Setup custom email

The internal memory of android devices is very expensive and one has to think a lot before installing the apps. Usually the email apps can’t be transferred to SD card and it occupies the precious space of the system memory.

The Hotmail app usually takes 5 MB space and provide mail services, incoming notification and widget. The android has default email setup option and it connects to your custom mail server. It provides synchronize and  mail notification services.

The email setup for Hotmail:

  • Select Email client on phone.
  • Press menu and select Add account
  • Enter full Hotmail address: e.g. username@hotmail.com or username@live.com
  • Enter password
  • Select Manual setup
  • Select Exchange when prompted for “What type of account is this?”
  • Domain/Username, enter full Hotmail address: e.g. username@hotmail.com. (Note: if the device only says “Domain”, it should be left blank. If the device says “Username”, then enter the full Hotmail address. On some devices, the Domain/Username may be pre-populated incorrectly and should be erased.
  • Type in password. (may already be filled in)
  • Server name. Enter: m.hotmail.com for server name. (Note: this field may be pre-populated incorrectly depending on device).
  • Make sure box Use secure connection (SSL) is checked.
  • Select Next
  • Select desired account options for inbox checking frequency, number of days to synchronize, send email by default, notifications and contacts/calendar sync. Select Next.
  • Depending on device you may be prompted for account color and account name (e.g. “Hotmail”)
  • Select Next and your Hotmail is set-up and ready to go!
Yahoo:
  • Add account
  • Enter email address in email address filed
  • Enter password at password field
  • Select MANUAL SETUP not next
  • Select IMAP
  • username

  • 993 (requires SSL)
  • optional = blank
  • Select NEXT
  • Out going
    • Server – smtp.mail.yahoo.com
    • Port – 465 (requires SSL)
